Cute things and games

Alright I'm one of the girls that's completely guilty of doing or getting things in games because they're cute/look good. I'll sacrifice a tiny bit of stats just so I don't have to wear a hideous shirt. I am color coordinated in my raiding gear. In the end if no one wants the item, I'll ask if I can have it because 'it looks pretty'. I will squeel at a small pet and want one even though it serves no function such as a bunny to follow me around.

Yes, I am one of the girls guilty of playing at times just because 'it's cute'. Is this such a bad thing though? Some guys who are the more 'hardcore' players may criticize girls for their indulgences. The creators of most games fail to tailor them to female tastes. Guys get their eye candy with girls and skimpy armory. What do girls really get? Usually nothing which to speak of. So guys, especially guys that play girls, let me have my little bits of joy because until all gear looks nice or my little pet is actually functional, that is how its going to be. Me, I'm staying color coordinated on my raids.

Dividing of the assests

As complicated and as silly as it ends up being... when you play World of Warcraft with your boyfriend and you break up... how do you divide up the assets? It a much similar way to a divorce what do you do in a video game when you played with one person on the same server and suddenly you aren't speaking anymore.

I can now virtually bump into my ex all the time thanks to the tiny world that is world of warcraft. Sick and twisted is it not? It's like going to school with them only worse because you're suppose to actually be having fun.

Well in the case of my ex, I happened to have all the items because it was my bank alt that I bought all the bank slots for and made the bags. Over the course of one week I sold everything basically on that bank alt and transfered servers.

Actual cash spent- $25
WoW gold kept- 3,000g + ~6,000 worth of items.

Not a bad trade considering the server I was on sucked anyways.

The perks in having boobs

Ah the perks in being female in a game. To abuse or not to abuse? For that is the real question. Many times I have been tempted to abuse the power of my sex into getting my way but have only maybe put my toe over the line. With so many willing men to come doggedly to your feet and give you free stuff who wouldn't be tempted?

I once asked two guys who played females in WoW why they did it. Well to get free stuff they said! They even add the little smiley faces and <3 and *hug* when they talk. Oh damn were they convincing. It got them their way too in certain events. One even cybered for gold. Yep. This is where all guys who cybered with a "girl" die.

While the devotion and the random presents are nice, there are times were the perks are kind of too much such as being the center of attention. I remember being on an alt playing world of warcraft. I was doing Scarlet Monastery with a pick up group and my bf. I spoke on the voice chat and sudden I had the warlock of the group talking with me in whispers, absolutely fascinated with me. He wanted to know how long i'd been playing, what kind of toons I had and when I said warlock I swear he was drooling IRL. Problem was though he was a complete noob but non the less was extremely fascinated with the fact that I was a girl who had a warlock. He was hitting the mob with his sword rather than using his spells. Sad yes.

Ever abused the power of being female? Post your story here in the comments!

Dude, I'm not a dude

There comes a point for every girl when someone says to her toon something like "Thanks dude". When that happens I have to stop and think. Should I correct him or should I just let it slide? I'm not a dude... my toon has boobs yet I am still assumed to be male.

I remember freaking out at some guy in WoW for something and him saying like 'Chill out dude' which only just made me more mad at having to then correct him on my gender. Other times I let it slide.

Is it beneficial to keep your mouth shut or to speak up and correct someone? I have always wondered if this would just create more unwanted attention having then revealed to an obviously ignorant person (omg girls on the interweb) that I'm female.

Gamer Girls are ugly

Now this blanketed statement will never cease to baffle me. Girls that play video games are ugly. While I know this to be entirely untrue having known a girl who was blonde, blue eyed, well endowed and loved her PS2, as to not mention myself, I'm sure there are many other women who'd like to step up and say they aren't ugly.

Where did the gamer girls are ugly come from anyways? It's a male dominated field much as sports are but women who are into sports are viewed as hot and cool while women who are into games are viewed as dorky and ugly. Where did these stereotypes come in?

As I strolled along the street, I viewed the last of the Celtics whatever it was clean up. A sickening amount of people in green around me so I decided to observe. Were sports chicks legitimately hotter than gamer girls and is there a valid stereotype? Personally all I saw was a preference in culture. Do you like a girl who probably spends her money on a new system or a girl who spends her money going tanning in the summer? Sports girls were not naturally hotter than gamer girls they just tried to look hotter.

I care about my looks too though I have yet to see a correlation in looks and video games. I don't know what you prefer. A girl who will boom head shot your enemy team or a girl who makes a great decoration?

"Gamer Girl" : Grls don't exist on the interweb

"Gamer Girl", "Female Gamer", "GRL" is a rare species indeed at times in the gamer world. I am finding these girls to be more common though and yes legitimately female. Often they are been roped into the game by their significant other who happens to love video games.

Many girls at one point or another reveal the fact they are female to someone. Usually because they just spoke on vent. Sometimes this is accompanied by dead silence before someone dares to confirm yes there is an actually girl on the interweb, she's in your vent, and no she's not the player's girlfriend she IS the player.

Dare I mention the picture? A woman must of course prove she's female by showing a picture because only females possess pictures of females and this of course proves she's in fact a real female. Sorry guys. Unless you have her on vent you don't know if she's really female and who honestly cares? I know of one case where this guy made a fake myspace with a fake picture of a girl and was trying to get another girl he was friends with to post on this wall and pretend she was 'her' friend.

So yes we exist and we're here even if you don't know it and maybe you never will. Women pretend to be men too just to avoid unwanted attention. But know this, grls exist on the interweb!

The First Taste

The best time to play a game is when it's new and you've never played it before. Surprisingly, the game is so much more fascinating as a noob than as a non-noob. There is so much to discover like that cool new gun that you've now memorized it's exact location on the map or getting out of the noob zone in an MMORPG. The world and the features are so vast and fascinating and there is so much to discover.

Well here I am, noob to the Blog. A Blog that I think will more act as a column in a newspaper than an actually recount of my every day life. Time to explore: The Life of a Gamer Girl.
